I think that’s it.  I’m done talking.

The SIMPLE Truth Is...

More and more time is being spent at the computer. This is causing a lot of workers to end up with some kind of physical problem as a result. These problems can include:

Ensuring proper comfort, support and safety at the computer is the key. But, setting up a computer area with good ergonomic fundamentals is often a confusing and daunting task. Trying to decide what is needed and what really works is time consuming and expensive. Just buying an ergonomic chair alone can cost several hundreds of dollars.

But now there’s an easy way you can avoid the risk of losing an employee, reduce production standstill and paying out disability and compensation claims. All by just making a few simple and easy changes to your employees computer area. With these changes you can dramatically reduce the risk of having them suffer with back pain, neck pain, headaches, wrist problems and other injuries associated with using the computer.

Plus, you don’t have to spend a lot of money on an expensive chair or try and figure out the complex and confusing world of ergonomics!

At SitHealthy.com we have the answer. We’ve already done it for you! We’ve tested all kinds of fun computer ergonomic equipage and have boiled things down to the basic essentials in computer comfort, support and safety. By creating The Sit Healthy System™ we’ve taken the guesswork out of finding the right stuff.

You’re invited to read on...

Our Story: Hi, I’m Dr. Neal and I’ve been a chiropractor for over 25 years. I’ve literally helped thousands of people with back and neck problems but I ended up having problems myself!

How embarrassing is that?
A Chiropractor with back pain!

A chiropractor with back pain? That’s like a plumber with a leaky faucet. Don’t get me wrong. I would get my back re-aligned regularly and even more when things were really bad. And believe me, the treatments helped but the pain just didn't stay away!

The most frustrating thing was that it took me so long to figure out the cause. It finally dawned on me. I felt better when I wasn't on my computer. Duh! Over the years I began to see more and more patients with back problems because of their computer.

I discovered that my patients
were just like me...
We didn’t realize how much
DAMAGE
our computers were doing to our bodies!

By the time you begin to notice any of the warning signs, you may have already developed a pattern of muscular strain. These patterns generally accumulate for months or even years before causing symptoms, and will tend to continue to worsen, with potentially disastrous results.

I've always been somewhat of a computer geek at heart. Over the years I found myself spending more time plopped in front of a computer monitor. Ah... but the real kicker was when I was sitting at the office of my daughter's orthodontist. I was browsing through the 6 month old magazines and came across an article on a free computer game program. Well, not only do I like computer games, but I'm cheap too. When I got home I immediately downloaded the free game. My wife has been trying to pry my rear end out of the chair ever since. I still play it today. It's one of my getaway stress relievers.

BUT...

I started playing more and more. Then I started doing my bills online. Then I was bringing work home from the office. Then I began working more on the office computer. Each day I found myself using a computer more and more. I JUST LOVED DOING STUFF ON MY COMPUTER! I got into all kinds of things. I was into e-bay for a while. Then facebook. I even learned how to make web sites. Not well, but I think good enough. Anyway... my back, neck, and shoulders started to really kill me.

I Really, Really Loved Being On My Computer!

But My Computer Didn’t Love Me Back!

My Computer Was Hurting Me.

I guess it's true! You’re Always
Hurt By the One You Love.

I had to do something to help myself. Having knowledge of biomechanics I began looking for different ways to help support my computer addiction. The first item (and my personal favorite) that I came across was the inflatable back pillow. I have a cousin, who is also a chiro and I was at her office visiting one day. She showed me this flat, limp piece of vinyl and said that this was one of the best lumbar support pillows she's ever seen. I thought she was a little goofy but she showed me that with only a few puffs of air this thing could support your back. I took one home and used it while I played my game. I didn't play any better but I did feel a whole heck of a lot better sitting. I squirmed less and was able to play longer. This was a good thing, I thought. I then began to look for other things that may help me. I began intensely studying ERGONOMICS. Particularly computer ergonomics. I found it fascinating. As I grew excited about my new found knowledge, I began sharing wrist angles, body positions, and proper monitor to eye ratios with my patients. And, do you know what they said? ...

"Huh?"

Then, I realized that I was... I was... BORING THEM!

Ha! Me... Dr. “Know It All” was putting everybody to sleep.

(and I probably still am writing this stuff)

Eventually it occurred to me... ERGONOMICS is boring. Now I don't even like using the word. It puts people right to sleep when I start bringing it up. When I read the ergonomic trade journals I would think to myself, "Geez, do I sound like this?" I began to think how I could help people with comfort, support, and safety at their computers in a better way. I recalled what my father always told me whenever we did a project together. "First, break things down to it's basic parts and ...Simplify, Simplify, Simplify."

Have you ever wondered what your calling may be? I mean, what you were destined to do? I've thought about that a lot in my life. It's kind of a gut feeling. Something feels right or it just doesn't. It's hard to explain. For years I've had this nagging idea in my head that somehow I needed to combine the love I have for my computer with the knowledge I have of the body and biomechanics. I've tried different ways of presenting this, some good and some pretty darn crappy. Mostly crappy. Sometimes it was difficult to find the proper time to devote to this and maintain a busy practice. But the fundamentals always remained the same. My father's words to "simplify" would continue to ring loudly in my head. That's the way computer ERGONOMICS should be presented in a simple easy to understand manner. I guess you can say that this is my calling. Hey, some people try to conquer the world, invent new things or think about the space time continuum. Me? I get computer related comfort and safety stuck in my head. Not really the stuff destined for greatness but at least I'm helping people. Anywho...Here's what I've found to help you avoid the potential harmful effects of computer use.

I developed The Sit Healthy System™ basically out of my own personal back and neck pain. I determined that the items needed had to meet four basic criteria:

Let me go over these 4 criteria and why I chose them...

Ergonomic Chair

If You Want It... You Can Spend Up To $1,000 For A Great Ergonomic Chair

But, if that $1,000 chair is not in your budget and you want to beef up your employee’s computer sitting area and make it a whole lot more healthier then...

Let’s Get To Work

I've personally tested dozens of products and spent a lot of money on stuff that looked and sounded good but in reality didn't work. For example, and a little off topic, but it serves my purpose for an analogy. Have you ever seen those ab-stimulators advertised on TV or in a magazine? The ones that promise you a six pack set of abs without doing any exercise? You just strap them to your belly and crank up the current. It contracts the abs without you having to do any sit ups, supposedly giving you massive mounds of six pack glory. Ha Ha! Good luck. Hope you didn’t waste your money on that. That's a great example of hype. Sounds good, looks like it makes sense, and really contracts those abs but in reality only diet and you actually doing the exercise are the only ways to get that six pack you’ve always wanted. That or running down to the local beer store.

Here’s The System:

1. Low Back Pillow - Great support for the low back.

This low back pillow is the best I've found. There are many different types of pillows or supports you can use but this one beats them all. The great thing about this pillow is that not only does it give you the support that you need, but it's also portable. It's inflatable! Just a few puffs of air is all you need. It conforms to your back and to the chair. This pillow is extremely versatile. With only a few puffs of air this pillow gives you the proper support needed while sitting at your computer. You can also use it in the car, in the office, at home, on the plane, at school, or basically anywhere you have to park yourself for a while. Take the air out and it fits into your briefcase, handbag or hat.

2. Posture Seat Wedge - More great support for the low back. This is a 15”x14”x3”x1” seat cushion. The wedge effect allows your low back to curve into the proper position for sitting. Combined with the Low Back Pillow, you have a powerful one-two punch in lumbar support. The foam is soft and feels good on the tush.

3. Keyboard Wrist Rest - Wrist support using the keyboard.

The Keyboard Wrist Support made with “CyberGel” gives great support and comfort while you’re keyboarding. (I remember the time when they called it typing). Use this with the Mouse Pad and Wrist Support for a great combo of wrist stabilization.

4. Mouse Pad and Wrist Rest - Wrist support using the mouse.

The Mouse Pad with Wrist Support is also made with that fabulous “CyberGel”. Great for taking the strain off your wrist when using the mouse. When using a regular mouse pad I use to get a raw area on the outer part of my wrist (the pisiform area for those who care). Not good for a chiropractor. I couldn’t have my delicate little hands marred by extended game play. The lumpy “CyberGel” area was great for supporting my wrist and relieving pressure.

5. Document Holder - Relieve neck and eye strain.

This is a must when entering data from a piece of paper into the computer. I use it when I have to enter bank statement info, PTA stuff or anything else that requires me to look at a sheet of paper and transfer whatever is on it into some software program. My kids seem to like it when they are researching school reports. When placed properly it avoids the constant turning of the head back and forth which reduces the strain on your neck. This Document Holder can easily hold up to 15 sheets of paper. It works with all kinds of documents and helps keep papers at a comfortable viewing level. It fits anywhere and leaves no yucky glue mess like those other copy holders that attach to your monitor.  I’ve even had people order over one hundred of these so they could display the table seating arrangements at their wedding. Go figure.

6. Stress Ball Hand Exerciser - Stress relief and hand relaxer.

The Stress Ball hand exerciser is great for relieving stress and tension in the hands, wrists and forearms after a bit of typing. Work out the kinks or squeeze this during times of stress instead of the neck of someone you know (or don’t know).  Also great for throwing.  Targets may vary.

7. Back Tips Booklet - Helpful info on sitting at your computer.

These back tips for sitting are great whether you’re computing or commuting. Easy to follow illustrations show you how to sit properly, set up you computer station, and perform some helpful exercises.  Refer to it often.

8. Ergo Pro Software Program
- Stretching and exercises.

The Ergo-Pro mini-break and exercise program is an invaluable asset for all computer users. If you don’t take short breaks and do some sort of exercise you’re just asking for trouble. This nifty little program will tell you when it’s time to take a break.  You can set it to warn you after a set period of time, after a certain number of keystrokes or after a number of mouse clicks. You decide when you want it to bug you. It will be like your mother coming in the room and telling you to sit up straight. A bit of a nag but she’s only really trying to help. Works on any windows computer using Win 95, 98, XP, or 7.

Did you know... The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found that nearly 2/3 of all occupational illnesses reported were caused by repetitive trauma to a worker’s upper body (the wrist, elbow or shoulder)? And a large contributing factor to repetitive stress was... the computer.
